John Wooden (1910 - 2010)

A man who demonstrated character in every aspect of his being and life.
WE MISS YOU COACH! GOD BLESS YOU.
John Wooden is considered the greatest basketball coach of all time. He has influenced millions of people over the years in a very positive way. His death at age 100 recently has left a huge void, not only in the basketball community but with people in all walks of life. John Wooden was also one of basketball's best players and performers, being elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as both player and coach, one of a handful who have earned that distinction. John Wooden was voted as an honorary founding member of the NBSA at our inception although he has never been posted at our web site. This is because we respect him so much. With his recent death, and our inability to get his endorsement and agreement, we felt it best to wait. We feel he should be honored here among his free throw mastery peers and he will be one day. John Wooden's professional basketball game time consecutive free throw record of 134 in a row still stands today, 75 years later. This consecutive free throw mark is recognized to be the most important of all the consecutive free throw records. Game time shooting is what it's all about. The difficulty in executing perfection at the free throw line in game time makes this record the most difficult to achieve. To have a zero drop off rate, practice percentage verses game time percentage, for that long of a period demonstrates that his shooting fundamentals, focus and concentration were, if not perfect, close. John's 134 in a row is a testament to his understanding, dedication, discipline, focus, concentration and yes, more than anything to his character.
